Baidu's New Smartphone A Safe Bet
May 2012 | Product LaunchBaidu, the leading Chinese internet search engine, has launched a new smartphone powered by its proprietary cloud-centric operating system (OS). The low-cost, sub-US$150 handset will be sold through China Unicom and, thanks to its deep connectivity with Baidu's online search, location and entertainment services and applications, should mirror the success of international rivals touting the Google Android operating system. BMI believes that the range of the new phone's capabilities, plus its affordability, is a surer bet for the company, which is looking to differentiate itself from established global and local rivals alike.
