Chilean MNOs Win 4G Spectrum
July 2012 | Industry Trends And DevelopmentsThe three major Chilean mobile operators Claro, Movistar and Entel have been awarded 4G tenders. The companies picked up spectrum in the 2.6Ghz band, with offers totalling over CLP6bnm (US$12mn). The winning bidders have to comply with a number of requirements including rolling out networks to 543 rural communities. While BMI welcomes the auction, we believe auctioning the spectrum to new players could have created an opportunity to improve competition in the market.
