Hondutel Proposes Joint Venture

Honduran incumbent Hondutel is to create a new subsidiary that will build an open mobile broadband network. The new subsidiary will be majority owned and controlled by Hondutel, but will be open to investment from national and foreign investors. BMI believes that emerging markets will increasingly use wireless technologies for the roll-out of broadband services and we see Hondutel's move as a positive step as it will boost broadband availability in the country. Coupled with investment in fibre-optic cabling, the outlook for Honduras' broadband market has improved significantly.
