Sky Moves In On Irish Triple-Play Market

Satellite TV operator BSkyB (Sky) has confirmed plans to launch voice telephony and broadband services in Ireland before the end of 2012. The company is hoping to emulate the success of rival pay-TV operator UPC by offering triple-play service packages in order to secure new customers and retain existing clients. It also seeks to take advantage of the disarray in which incumbent telecom operator eircom finds itself in the voice and broadband markets. BMI believes the move will boost Ireland's flagging fixed-line and broadband markets, which could benefit from more competitive pricing.
