Myanmar announced in July that it is working on a reform plan to bring affordable telecommunications services that are on par with international standards. It is also looking for consultants to facilitate the industry liberalisation process, which would in turn open up the market to interested foreign companies. While the Myanmarese telecoms market harbours significant long-term growth opportunities in light of years of isolation, BMI holds firm to our view that there is too much uncertainty at the moment, which poses a myriad of risks.
