Spectrum Auction Could Be More Attractive For Fourth Operator

The Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic (TUSR) has concluded its evaluation of operators' responses to the public consultation for the allocation of 800MHz, 1,800MHz and 2.6GHz spectrum as part of the digital dividend. The regulator concluded that the market has room for a fourth operator, and will design the tender expected in Q212 to attract a new entrant and prevent strategic accumulation of spectrum. It also determined that spectrum should be technology neutral for the rollout of next generation LTE services. BMI considers the move to promote LTE services positively, but we are sceptical about the attractiveness of the proposal to new entrants in its current form.
