Indonesian Operators Focus On Mobile Money

Mobile money services are growing in popularity in emerging markets worldwide as operators seek to grow income from new wave value-added services and attract new customers to their networks while governments encourage mobile banking applications as a means of bringing unbanked cash into the economy. As Indonesia's 275.1mn mobile phone subscribers significantly outnumber the 60mn formal bank account holders, BMI sees considerable opportunities for mobile payment, mobile wallet and related services in 2012 and beyond. The market will be led by incumbent Telkomsel, which has outlined its 2012 mobile money expansion plans.
