Wholesale Price Cuts Will Hit Batelco

The telecoms regulator in Bahrain, the TRA, has announced that wireline wholesale access fees and international phone line lease prices will be cut. The regulatory measure is the latest in a series by the regulator, dating back to June 2008, when it released its final statement outlining 'pro-consumer' measures to boost competition in Bahrain's telecoms market. BMI expects incumbent operator Batelco to be negatively affected by the latest price cuts, however we believe the measure could contribute to increased broadband service uptake as a result of lower prices.
