Mobile Consolidation Imminent In Crowded Malaysian Market

Just months after the Malaysian authorities issued nine LTE mobile broadband licences, some of the new entrants to the market are already talking about the need to consolidate in order to protect the value of their assets, ensure their networks and services have the scale needed to be financially viable and compete with established offerings from the existing players. Although such plans have yet to be confirmed, BMI believes that consolidation is inevitable given the crowded nature of the Malaysian mobile market, a view we have held ever since the regulator announced plans to issue so many licences.
