Metroweb Plans EUR4.5bn 30-City Fibre Expansion

Italian regional broadband operator Metroweb has announced ambitious plans to deploy fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) infrastructure to 30 large cities. The three-year project would cost approximately EUR4.5bn and, if successful, could be extended to other areas of the country. BMI welcomes any moves to increase the availability of high-speed broadband services in Italy, though we are not particularly optimistic that this expensive project will result in a significant return on investment or draw sufficient numbers of paying customers to justify the expense.
