Rostelecom's Bid For RETN Highlights Global Expansion Ambitions

Russia's Rostelecom has been granted regulatory approval to buy RETN Capital, a global backbone network provider. Founded in 2002, RETN (Real Time Network) serves more than 200 Russian and international carriers as well as 700 corporate customers, via nodes located across Europe, Asia and North America. The deal, were it to proceed, would not only augment Rostelecom's already considerable Russian network capacity but also ramp-up the company's global presence and boost its ability to deliver next-generation value-added services such as cloud computing and pay-TV.
