Regional Telecoms Integration Becomes Increasingly Political
March 2012 | Company News AlertEight state-owned telecoms companies have inaugurated the Telecoms Organisation of the Americas (OITA). The companies plan to cooperate on regulatory, technological and commercial issues, to integrate their networks and negotiate joint acquisitions. BMI believes the organisation has the potential to increase efficiency among state telecoms companies, and it will play a key role in the development of the proposed fibre-optic ring in Latin America. However, the disparity between political and commercial interests may impose limitations on the potential benefits of the project.
