Ofcom Extends Everything Everywhere 1,800MHz 4G Consultation As Rivals' Discontent Simmers Over
March 2012 | Company News AlertOfcom has extended the deadline for responses to its proposal that Everything Everywhere be permitted to provide 4G LTE services over its 1,800MHz spectrum ahead of a formal auction of 4G licences. The deadline has been extended from April 17 to May 8 2012 as rival operators have deluged the agency with complaints that the move would be anti-competitive and protectionist. The move does not surprise BMI, which expected the other players to respond negatively to the proposal, but the fact that Ofcom appears to have been taken aback by the response is a worrying sign that a resolution to the regulator's plans to license 4G services in as fair a manner as possible may not be easily or quickly achieved.
