Slovak Telekom Under Pressure From European Commission
May 2012 | Regulatory DevelopmentIncumbent operator Slovak Telekom has stated that it 'emphatically disagrees' with the preliminary findings of the European Commission's statement of objections, which alleges it abused its dominant position in the Slovakian broadband market. The incumbent argues that local courts have ruled in its favour in cases of alleged anti-competitive behaviour and that the Slovakian market has healthy cross-technology competition. BMI notes the limited presence of alternative DSL providers operating on Slovak Telekom's network, but we argue that cross-technology competition may ultimately deliver greater benefit to consumers than regulatory measures.
