Etisalat To Launch VoIP Service As Regulator Leaves Door Open For Skype

The UAE maintains a tight regulation of VoIP services, including blocking the services of free and low-cost service providers such as Skype. However incumbent operator Etisalat plans to launch VoIP services in Q212, while the telecoms regulator is open to negotiate with VoIP services providers seeking licences to operate in the country. BMI expects these developments to form the foundation for the evolution of VoIP services in the UAE.
