Telenor Looking For New Partner In India

February 2012 | Company News Alert

Norwegian operator Telenor has decided to split from its partner in Indian operator Uninor, Unitech, and is seeking indemnity and compensation. The decision has been triggered by the Indian Supreme Court's decision to cancel 22 licences owned by Uninor that were purchased on and from January 10, 2008. The licences were acquired before Telenor's investment in Uninor. BMI welcomes the move by Telenor to draw a line under the issues and its commitment to target the market with a new partner, although we expect it to face major challenges along the way.
