CGI-Logica Deal Shakes Up IT Services Sector

CGI Group has agreed to acquire its Europe-focused rival Logica in order to expand its global footprint, deepen its reach into key industry verticals and pursue larger growth opportunities that require scale and local expertise it otherwise lacks. Enterprises worldwide are increasingly turning to large IT service providers to manage their data storage, retrieval and sharing processes and this trend is prompting consolidation in the market. CGI's decision to move on Logica now, after five years of on-off discussions, reflects the wealth of opportunities in Europe, where 'Big Data' has become a major issue. BMI has a positive view of this deal, which would create the sixth-largest player on the global market.
