Orange Jordan CEO Nayla Khawam has stated that Middle Eastern operators were caught off-guard by over-the-top (OTT) services, and remain unprepared for the challenge from new players. Meanwhile, Türk Telekom CEO Hakam Kanafani said operators are facing survival questions as a result of stagnant revenues and rising network costs due to a number of factors, including OTT services. BMI draws on analysis of more developed markets to consider this trend in the Middle East. We believe that, while OTT services are a threat to operators, they also present significant opportunities for those operators undertaking necessary reforms.
