Backhaul Benefit Tips The Balance As Vodafone Announces Agreement To Acquire CWW

Vodafone Europe has agreed to acquire Cable & Wireless Worldwide (CWW) for GBP1.044bn. Vodafone's interest in CWW is derived from two factors - opportunities in enterprise markets and mobile backhaul cost-efficiencies in the UK. BMI believes the synergies between CWW's fibre infrastructure and Vodafone's UK business in mobile backhaul were the critical factor in raising its willingness to pay more than Tata Communications, which had also previously expressed interest in CWW.
