Higher MTRs For New Mobile Players May Breach EU Rules
April 2012 | Regulatory DevelopmentThe European Commission has expressed serious doubts about proposals by the French telecommunications regulator, ARCEP, to set higher mobile termination rates (MTRs) for newcomer Free and mobile virtual network operators Lycamobile and Oméa Telecom. It argues that competitive network access and interconnection agreements between the new entrants and established players mean that there is less of a need to help newcomers offset high network buildout costs by passing on higher rates to consumers.
