Viettel's Peruvian Unit Suffers Setback But Growth Outlook Remains Positive

March 2012 | Company News Alert

Vietnamese telecoms operator Viettel Group's launch of commercial mobile services in Peru has been postponed by a year to May 2013, according to local media outlet RPP. The shift in launch date is largely blamed on the delay by the Ministry of Transport and Communication (MTC) in approving the company's technical plan, which will define its coverage. Viettel is keen to expand its footprint across Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa and will see the delay in the launch of commercial operations in Peru as a major setback to its expansion strategy.
