On February 16 2011, French incumbent operator Orange announced the launch of a new service that provides swift and cost effective mobile access to online social networking site Facebook for customers in Sub-Saharan Africa. This development, which BMI welcomes, is in line with our view of the adoption of value-added services (VAS) strategies by mobile operators to drive revenue and subscriber growth amid intense competition in traditional services.
