International Players Eye Vivacom

Local Austrian media have reported that incumbent Telekom Austria, which already has assets in Bulgaria through its ownership of mobile operator Mobiltel, is interested in the sale of Bulgarian incumbent Vivacom. Meanwhile, Turkey's largest mobile operator Turkcell is also reportedly interested in the operator. However, neither suitor has a made a final decision to bid for Vivacom. BMI considers both potential bidders to have the financial and operational credentials to benefit the market if they took control of Vivacom, which dominates Bulgaria's wireline segments. However, we believe that potential complications arising from competition concerns over a Telekom Austria bid due to its leading position in the mobile market make Turkcell the most beneficial suitor from a market development perspective.
