Alcatel-Lucent To Deploy Movistar's Spanish LTE Network

Móvistar contracted Alcatel-Lucent to expand its trial LTE network to a pre-commercial pilot offering. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, although it is reported that coverage will initially be limited to just two cities. Móvistar - which is the mobile unit of incumbent Telefónica SA - has been trialling LTE technology since 2009 and would therefore be the first Spanish operator to fully implement the 4G standard.
