Microsoft To Trial 'Super WiFi' - Meeting Data Demand Or Strategic Challenge?
June 2011 | Industry Trend AnalysisMicrosoft is leading a trial that will investigate the potential for using radio spectrum not wanted for the transmission of terrestrial television for the construction of a 'super WiFi' network. The trial will need to prove that it can operate without interfering with the television signals by operating in 'white space', that is between the frequencies utilised by the television operators. BMI believes the networks have the potential to offer solutions to the growing problem of network infrastructure capacity, and may have considerable strategic benefit to the firms involved.
