Spain's Economic Woes Drag On Mobile Operator Performance

Spain's economic woes continue to weigh on the results of the country's mobile operators. Incumbent Telefónica countered the negative performance of its operations in Spain, where it is the largest telecoms provider, with a good performance in its other markets. However, the 5.6% y-o-y decrease in Q111 revenues still weighed heavily on its results. Fellow mobile operators Orange and Vodafone have also struggled as the recession bites. BMI sees continued difficulties for operators and expects strategies to continue changing as the outlook improves.
