Yahsat Satellite Internet Service Bodes Well For Local Market But May Face Challenges Abroad

The UAE-based Star Satellite Communications, a subsidiary of Al Yah Satellite Communications (Yahsat), is planning to launch the first satellite broadband system in the UAE, which will also serve customers in the entire Middle East, Africa, and South West Asia. The service, branded YahClick, will serve the region through Yahsat's satellites Y1A and Y1B. The first satellite Y1A is currently being built and will be launched in Q111, while Y1B will follow in Q411. The arrival of Yahsat will provide much needed competition and growth in the UAE's broadband market. However, its cross-border plans may prove too ambitious, BMI cautions.
